About The
GDH Campaign

The residents of Gugulethu are demanding a new district hospital. The current day hospital in Gugulethu, the KTC Day Hospital, cannot support over 500,000 residents of Gugulethu and surrounding areas. The Department of Health is robbing the residents of Gugulethu of their constitutional right to health, under Section 27 (1) (a), as the hospital is unable to deliver quality health services in a timely and safe manner.

(1) Everyone has the right to have access to— (a) health care services, including reproductive health care. (2) The state must take reasonable legislative and other measures, within its available resources, to achieve the progressive realisation of each of these rights.

Section 27(1)(a) and 27(2) of the South African Constitution
